Zincalume Australian made

ZINCALUME® steel has been used with striking effect by leading architects to create the latest in modern building designs, through to classic roofing styles and rural sheds.

ZINCALUME® steel with Activate® technology has a unique aluminium/ zinc/ magnesium alloy coating (AM) which acts in three ways:

  • Magnesium, aluminium and zinc compounds are strategically positioned in the coating to provide sacrificial protection
  • Magnesium compounds encourage the formation of a robust barrier, slowing the rate of subsequent corrosion
  • Magnesium compounds also ‘activate’ the metal coating.

The result is a tough protective coating that provides enhanced corrosion resistance.

Framing

A variety of steel framing sections are manufactured from ZINCALUME® steel including stud framing and top hat sections.  Top hats are used widely in a range of construction applications including garages, sheds, awnings, carports and light industrial buildings. They’re commonly used as a roof purlin or wall girt, but their versatility extends to other applications such as racking and flooring.

Activate® Technology – ZINCALUME® steel

ZINCALUME® steel’s patented Activate® technology introduces magnesium into the aluminium-zinc alloy coating, improving galvanic protection by activating the aluminium. The result is a tougher protective coating that’s more resistant to scratches and scuffs encountered during construction.

The protective coating innovation also increases the product lifespan of next generation ZINCALUME® steel whilst using fewer metal resources. Compared to ZINCALUME® steel AZ150, next generation ZINCALUME® steel AM125 has a smaller environmental footprint^ in all 18 Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) categories assessed.

ZINCALUME® steel is made only by BlueScope and will be identified by its brand mark, which is printed on the steel. Check for the brand and you can be sure it meets AS1397, and the “deemed to satisfy” requirements of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) for roofing and walling applications. Specify correctly by name – ZINCALUME® steel AM125.
