However, the location should be at a distance of at least 1 kilometre from a marine environment. This also applies to GALVASPAN® steel Z450 or Z350 that are used in purlins applications.
This process involves coating the steel in the presence of a galvanic cell that creates a galvanic current.
Since different metals react differently in the presence of an electrolyte, we see the formation of a galvanic cell with galvanic protection when we put two different metals into contact.
Thanks to the electrolyte, electrons begin to flow between the two participating metals creating a galvanic current. As a result, the more active metal catches corrosion and the other shows a decrease in corrosion compared to when they were not a part of the process.
This helps in calculating the rate of corrosion for both the metals as the current is a measure of the increase in dissolution.
In simple words, when two metals are made to come into contact with one another in the presence of an electrolyte, the one that is more active becomes more corrosion proof while the other gets more prone to corrosion.
