Australian made

Steel products with a matte galvanised layer and a top-notch appearance can be a good option when it comes to deep drawing applications and commercial forming.

A very good choice can be ZINCANNEAL® steel, one of our premium products that’s known not only for its durability but appearance as well. It offers excellent strength and is highly flexible as well.

ZINCANNEAL® steel is hot dipped and coated with zinc/iron alloy that makes it even more reliable. Plus, it can be easily bent, roll formed, painted, and welded as per your requirements. This makes ZINCANNEAL® steel suitable for a variety of applications.

The steel is also coated with a zinc-aluminium coating for extra durability. Moreover, the neat surface makes it more convenient to post paint it.

There are different varieties of ZINCANNEAL® steel being offered at BlueScope Sheet Metal Supplies. They all meet the Australian standards and are completely safe to use. Some of the most popular choices are ZINCANNEAL® G2S steel, ZINCANNEAL® G3NS steel, and ZINCANNEAL® G3NS-E steel.

ZINCANNEAL® G2S steel is mostly used in making electrical cabinets, washing machines, non-exposure automotive panels, door frames, ceiling tiles, and switchboards.

On the other hand, ZINCANNEAL® G3NS steel and ZINCANNEAL® G3NS-E steel are associated with making deep drawing applications.

The Galvanising Process to Make ZINCANNEAL® Steel

The Preparation

This hot dipped galvanised steel is treated with a pickling process first before passing into the galvanising kettle. This cleans the product and makes it ready to form a metallurgic bond with zinc.

Pickling Process

This process is crucial in the making of this steel because it helps scrape off the scale that might contain rust, paint, oil, lubricants or other substances that might contaminate the steel in the future or reduce its life.

After undergoing the pickling process, it is treated with hydrochloric or sulphuric acid. This is known as ‘preparation’.

Fluxing

After the steel has cleared the preparation phase, it undergoes the fluxing stage.

Here, the steel is immersed in a solution of ammonium chloride and zinc in the presence of wetting agents.

The purpose of dipping the steel into this solution is to remove the oxide film that takes place on a highly reactive steel and restricts oxidation before galvanising takes place.

After this, the steel is pulled out and allowed to dry.

Galvanising

Here, the dried steel is passed into a molten zinc solution to form zinc-iron alloy layers on the steel.  The trick is to leave the steel inside the solution until the temperature matches that of the molten zinc (445°C to 465°C). This allows a metallurgic bond to form.

The steel is kept dipped into the solution for a specific period of time depending on the amount and volume of the steel being galvanised.

The final product received is highly durable with both internal and external protection.
